Nothing to hold. Nothing to watch. The mind settles by itself.
Transcendental Meditation asks nothing of your attention. The mind settles by itself to a depth that effort cannot reach, and you learn it in person from a teacher who stays with you afterwards.
The quiet was never something to build. It was somewhere to go.
Most practices ask more of you the deeper you go. More discipline, more stillness to maintain.
TM rests on a different observation: given the right technique, the mind settles by itself. What you have been working toward is already there.

Different from what you already practise.
Not a discipline. Not attention training. A technique, given to you.

Effortless
No concentration, no observing the breath, nothing to hold.
Given
A mantra chosen for you by a trained teacher, not taken from a list.
Personal
Taught one-to-one, then checked, for as long as you practise.
Unchanged
Taught the same way, teacher to student, for over sixty years.
You have felt the edge of it before.
The moment before sleep. The end of a long exhale. TM takes the mind there on purpose, and further: through quieter levels of thought to a rest that is complete and fully awake.
The benefit is not twenty quiet minutes. It is what the quiet leaves behind.

Rest that reaches further than sleep.
A settled body and an awake mind, twice a day, on an ordinary chair.
More of you in the room.
Less carried, so more of yourself is available for the people in front of you.
Not something you keep alone.
A teacher who knows you, a group that sits together, and a centre to return to.
A path well travelled.
People who have learned the technique, taught the same way, in more than one hundred countries.
Published research studies on the Transcendental Meditation technique since 1970.
They had been practising for years.
This was the first time it was easy.
Four days to learn. Yours for life.
About two hours a day on four consecutive days, at the Vancouver TM Centre or online. After that, the practice is yours, and you are not practising alone.
Personal instruction
Privately, with your teacher. Your mantra, and the first practice.
Establishing the technique
Small sessions confirming the practice is effortless and making it part of an ordinary week.
Ten-day and twenty-day meetings
Your teacher checks the practice and answers whatever has come up.
And you are not practising alone.

A room on West 8th where people already sit together.
You meet your teacher at the Discovery Session and learn from the same person across all four days. Afterwards there is a group that sits together every week, and a door you can walk back through.

Thinking further ahead?
If you decide to learn after your Discovery Session, the complete course is $980 CAD, payable in four monthly instalments, with income-based rates available. Lifetime checking, group meditations and ongoing learning are included.
Course fees and guaranteeQuestions people ask first.
Why pay when I can learn to meditate for free?
You can, and many people do. What the fee buys is a technique given to you personally, checked by a teacher until it is effortless, and a lifetime of checking afterwards at any centre in the world. People who have done both tend to say the difference is not the first week. It is the tenth year.
How is this different from what I already practise?
Mindfulness, breathwork and most app-based practices ask you to direct attention. TM does not. The mind settles inward on its own, which is why it is described as effortless, and why it is taught in person rather than through an app.
Why is the mantra given rather than chosen?
The mantra is a sound without meaning, selected for you by a teacher trained to do so, and used in a specific way. Choosing one from a list is a different practice. Yours is given, and then checked.
Is there a belief system attached?
No. TM is a technique, not a belief system, and it asks for no change in what you believe. The first session opens with a short traditional ceremony of thanks performed by your teacher; you watch, and nothing is asked of you.
What is the community like?
There is nothing to join, nothing to believe and no one to follow. What you find at the centre is a group of people who sit together for twenty minutes and then go home.
Why is there a fee for a practice that comes from a tradition?
The technique has always passed from teacher to student, and a teacher's training takes months of full-time study. The fee pays for that training, the time, and the lifetime of follow-up that comes with it.
What does the course cost, and is there a guarantee?
The complete course is $950 CAD, payable in full or in four monthly instalments of $237.50. Income-based and student rates are available. Lifetime follow-up with your teacher is included.
Twenty minutes, twice a day. The rest is effortless.
Come and see what the quiet leaves behind.
